I’m 20, and I’ve been struggling with masturbation for about three years. I’ve tried quitting a few times, usually for a few days, a week, without much conviction. Recently I decided to end it for real. I changed my lifestyle, filled up my time, and started with a holiday: I went away for two weeks. For me those two weeks were the longest period of freedom in three years, and though it may sound strange, I noticed changes in myself (all the positive ones; I can now say with complete certainty that quitting works and the effects are great).
Unfortunately, after two weeks came the curiosity about how “ready” I was. I was surprised by the effect of just two weeks. And most importantly, after “that” I was over the moon, because even though I’d slipped, my erection hadn’t got any weaker. A week later, out of curiosity, I checked the “functionality” again. Everything was fine. But the next day: nothing. Zero. After the first slip, I had great erections for another week; after the second time, disaster. No erections at all, unless I really work at it. I’m not touching myself, I’m trying to avoid stimulation, but it’s day four after the second time and nothing. Do I have to start all over again now, with the whole effect of those two weeks wasted? Or is this something worse?
I’m scared, because I feel exactly the way I did during my worst period, when I was masturbating every day (thankfully that period is long gone).
I should add that, happily, I quit porn a long time ago. For almost six months I haven’t been on any of those sites; it doesn’t turn me on at all any more. But the problem of “checking that it works and getting it out of my system” has stayed. Unfortunately I don’t have a girlfriend, so another way of letting off steam isn’t an option.
