Habits & Cravings

With no friends and no girlfriend, porn filled all my free time

Quitting makes sense on paper, but loneliness made it easy to keep going. A failed night with a girl was my warning light, and I'm still fighting.

I’m addicted to porn and masturbation. I read an article about getting rid of the habit the simple way, and I think everything in it is true, but in practice it isn’t that easy. Porn is so easy to access now that it’s hard to break away. Let’s remember this is about people who are addicted. Someone without the problem might watch once or twice and that’s it; they won’t come back to it. Notice that an addicted person has to avoid every temptation so as not to get worked up. And what do ads look like these days? Everything is sold with sex. Even products that have nothing to do with it, like poultry (seriously, I saw an ad like that).

When we open any big news site, we see articles like “shows off her charms online” or “the sexiest girls on social media”. Porn actresses get written about on popular websites, which used to be unthinkable. They’re becoming pop-culture stars.

Besides, in my humble opinion, this addiction is harder to beat than others. You can (in theory) lock an alcoholic up: he’ll be craving, but he won’t drink, because there’s nothing to drink. Someone addicted to masturbation doesn’t have it so easy, for obvious reasons. Even if you cut out porn, there are still erotic daydreams and the “memory porn”.

I got into this mess out of curiosity and I’m still stuck in it today. It started with ordinary films, where sex seemed to be everywhere, and I began to wonder whether something was wrong with me. One day my mother asked me whether I masturbated. I said: “What’s that, and why would I need it?” She told me that lots of boys my age like it and that I shouldn’t do it, but unfortunately curiosity got the better of me, and I liked it. It started with nude photos of models. Later, unfortunately, I found porn sites that anyone could open. And when stress piled up at school, and later at work, the excuse to “relieve myself” was ready.

Anyone who thinks I watched only perverted, hardcore films with “mega-fake” women is wrong. I liked watching ordinary, non-vulgar sex with pretty, shapely, nice women. Some of them I would never have suspected of being porn actresses if I hadn’t seen those films. They could have been ordinary actresses or models. It didn’t matter to me whether their breasts were natural or fake (as long as they were nice). You can always tell yourself they’re natural. Also, while masturbating I always liked looking at the actress’s face. And I never went further, for example towards gay films.

Unfortunately I had no real friends and no girlfriend, so it was easy for me to masturbate. If I’d had someone to spend my free time with, maybe it would have been easier to quit. Porn and masturbation had a disastrous effect on my life. I spent all my free time in front of porn, masturbating. I could do it for hours, several times in a row. But sometimes a few minutes was enough to “relieve myself”. I didn’t look for friends or a girlfriend. It’s strange that I didn’t fail at school, and later at work.

The warning light went on in my head when I went to bed with a girl and it went wrong. At first I couldn’t get an erection, and the sex gave me no pleasure. My penis had probably got used to my hand.

Unfortunately the addiction was so strong that I kept doing it, but carelessly and as fast as possible. Sometimes I noticed that I was masturbating and coming without a full erection.

To fight it I took up sport; I go to the gym. Sometimes it helps. But women go there too, and sometimes I got worked up.

I’m trying to fight it. It’s hard, because I don’t have a woman and nature makes itself felt. The longest I’ve lasted is six months. I don’t want to set records; I want to break free of it. Good luck to everyone fighting this addiction. I needed to get it off my chest.

A thoughtful conversation.
